The Town of Avon, with administrative oversight from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (IMPO), intends to proceed with the local and state funded Dan Jones Road Reconstruction (Phase 4) located in Avon, Hendricks County, Indiana.   Dan Jones Rd (N CR 800 E) in Avon, Hendricks County, Indiana. The proposed project limits begin approximately 0.14 miles south of the intersection of Dan Jones Rd and Bradford Rd (E CR 200 S) and extends north to approximately 200 feet south of the intersection of Dan Jones Rd and Oriole Way (E CR 150 S). The need for the project is evident based on ongoing growth in the area and resulting anticipated traffic volumes. The purpose of the project is to improve the roadway so that it can accommodate future traffic volumes and operate at an acceptable level of service during the existing year and during the design year.

The current proposed project would include the reconstruction of Dan Jones Rd from a 2-lane roadway to a 4-lane roadway. At the intersection of Dan Jones Rd and Bradford Rd, approximately 140 feet of Bradford Rd would be constructed west past the existing roundabout to possibly extend the roadway in the future. The typical roadway section on Dan Jones Rd is anticipated to consist of four, 12-foot-wide travel lanes (two northbound and two southbound), with a 14-foot-wide raised median and a curb and gutter. The 14-foot raised median would transition to a left-turn lane at Oriole Point Drive. Additionally, a 10-foot-wide multi-use path would be constructed on the eastern side of the roadway and a 6-foot-wide sidewalk on the west side of the roadway. The sidewalk and multi-use path would be separated from the road by 5-foot-wide grass buffer strips. Upgrades to the existing or new storm sewer would be installed to collect drainage from the curb and gutter. The proposed typical section would match the existing typical section to the north and tie into the existing 2-lane section at the intersection of Bradford Road to the south.

It is anticipated that the proposed project would require the acquisition of greater than 0.50 acre of additional permanent right-of-way. No relocations are anticipated as a result of the proposed project. Maintenance of traffic (MOT) for the project would likely include a full lane closure and detour. Access will be maintained to all properties within the project corridor during construction. The MOT plan has yet to be fully developed and coordinated with the local agencies and additional details will be provided as the design advances.
