Pomeroy Riverfront
Improvement Project
PROJECT NO. 2024.01009
POMEROY, MEIGS COUNTY, OHIO
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Big Improvements Coming to Downtown Pomeroy
The Village of Pomeroy has been awarded funding from the Appalachian Community Grant Program, made possible through Ohio’s designation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars. These funds will be administered by the Governor’s Office of Appalachia within the Ohio Department of Development.
A local Steering Committee, along with architects and engineers selected through a qualifications-based process, has worked closely with the Village to plan these upgrades. The goal is simple: to make our riverfront and downtown a more welcoming, safe, and enjoyable place for everyone.
What’s Changing
Here’s what you can expect to see in the coming months:
SAFER STREETS:
-
New crosswalks at key intersections for better visibility and safer pedestrian access.
-
New traffic signals at Butternut Avenue, Court Street, and Sycamore Street.
-
Improved Lighting:
-
Replacement of light poles and fixtures along Main Street, Court Street, Lynn Street, and Sycamore Street.
BETTER DRAINAGE:
-
Upgrades to the stormwater system on Main Street and 2nd Street to reduce flooding during heavy rains.
ROAD & PARKING UPGRADES:
-
Resurfacing of all roads in the project area.
-
Fresh pavement markings and improvements to the riverfront parking lot.
A NEW GATHERING PLACE ON COURT STREET:
One of the most exciting parts of this project is the Court Street transformation. Court Street will become a pedestrian-friendly corridor featuring:
-
Upgraded lighting.
-
Two central water fountains.
-
Enhanced landscaping to create a park-like setting.
-
A welcoming place for friends, families, and visitors to gather.
This project represents a major investment in Pomeroy’s future, creating a downtown that is safer, more attractive, and better prepared for the years ahead.
